The assesment
Before starting my job at business consultancy VVA-Informatisering, my prospective employer assigned me a task for my job application, requesting the development of a platform that encompasses all tools accessible to the client's employees. The platform should allow scrolling through multiple tools from various categories, all within a unified dashboard. Additionally, they intend to expand the platform's functionality to facilitate seamless access to teams and SharePoint files, making it multifunctional.
my goal: creating a platform that unifies all the tools, drive tool sales, and integrate engaging gamification elements.

Redesign
As a result, I took their existing design and redesigned it in their own corporate identity, which I presented during my second job application. This presentation was received positively, leading to my acceptance to further develop and enhance the platform.
My design
Further on developement
The platform is required to be user-friendly for individuals with limited computer literacy, facilitating easy access to all necessary tools for their daily work activities, including seamless integration with applications such as SharePoint and Teams.
Ideas
In a collaborative session with colleagues, we engaged in a brainstorming session to generate ideas that could enhance the platform. As a result, the following suggestions emerged:
Introduction of a feature that allows users to request tools that their supervisor has not yet adopted.
Implementation of a tool favoriting system, enabling users to personalize their tools by accessing their frequently used tools more efficiently.
Incorporation of a demo version option to showcase the platform's capabilities to potential new clients.
These ideas aim to improve the functionality, customization, and potential customer engagement of the platform.
Design
With these innovative ideas in mind, I embarked on creating a new design that incorporates these concepts. I immediately initiated the process by focusing on visual design elements and meticulously crafting each screen, ensuring responsiveness across various devices. By diligently working on this design overhaul, I aimed to deliver an aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interface that seamlessly adapts to different screen sizes.
Presentation
I eventually presented the design to two of my colleagues, providing them with an in-depth explanation. I also presented during the weekly stand-up meeting. This presentations served as an opportunity to gather valuable feedback, which I diligently incorporated into the design. By actively seeking input from my colleagues, I ensured that their perspectives and insights were considered, leading to iterative improvements and an enhanced final design. Back then, still in the old colours of the business-unit.
Iterations
Given that we are working with student developers and the platform is still in its early stages, our focus is on prioritizing the development of essential components, namely the tools. Consequently, I narrowed down the platform's scope to include only the current tools, eliminating the need for a category filter due to the limited number of tools available. Additionally, we temporarily removed the integration with SharePoint and Teams to concentrate solely on the tools themselves.
To introduce an element of gamification, we incorporated notifications that allow users to participate in a game or activate party mode, triggering various visual elements on the screen. Nevertheless, as this feature required further refinement and the development process was already well underway, we made the decision to postpone its implementation for the time being.
Subsequently, we aimed to include an option for additional features to promote our own products or inspire users with various tools. The colored bars represent extras specific to my current employers, while the other bars serve as informative resources for other clients.
Testing
Prior to the platform's launch, we recognized the importance of conducting thorough testing. To facilitate this process, I took the initiative to set up a user test, inviting both colleagues and potential clients to participate. This allowed us to gather valuable feedback and identify any areas that required improvement or adjustment. By involving a diverse group of testers, including internal stakeholders and potential end-users, we aimed to ensure that the platform met the needs and expectations of its intended audience.

Teamwork
I took full ownership of the design process, crafting it entirely on my own. However, I collaborated closely with developers throughout the platform's development. This collaboration posed a unique challenge as the developers, like myself, were also students. While not all of my design elements were seamlessly incorporated, and some features presented challenges in implementation, I worked closely with the developers to ensure the integrity of my design. We held feedback sessions to address any issues, allowing us to collectively achieve the best possible outcome.
Conclusion
Due to my personal growth and study abroad, I regrettably had to part ways with the company. As a result, I submitted all my documents and materials, entrusting the continuation of the platform's design and development to them. I sincerely hope that they will carry on with the vision and objectives we had set, ensuring the successful realization of the platform.
Reflection
Reflecting on my work process, there are certainly aspects I would have approached differently. Initially, I immediately proceeded with the existing design and adhered to the employer's requirements. However, I would have preferred to conduct further research, dive deeper into user behaviour, and seek the most appropriate solution for the platform. Since users may not be familiar with the latest platforms, it was crucial to ensure that the conceived tools and functionalities truly met their needs.
Moreover, the visual design, although it aligned with the business unit's colors, inadvertently leads the user to multiple focal points. The colors could have been toned down, and I could have placed a stronger emphasis on what was truly essential, such as the favourites and current tools, and visually communicated their significance more effectively.
